I’m a Gen Z, And I Loathe TikTok

I just feel that it’s a HUGE waste of time…

I was never the kind of person who would be interested in a lot of social media. I see other teens using Snapchat, Insta and all the other kind of media, and then I ask myself, “What use do others see in this”?

Look, if you use these apps for business growth purposes, showing your art/ other talents, for exposure and all that stuff; I laud you. On the other hand, there are some(many) teens who just twerk, take selfies, post aesthetic pics (of anything at all).

Many of my friends were peer pressured into getting social media, and I was too. I have a good account of friendships and am the friendly kind, and at the time when everyone started to get an account, I felt really left out. And you know how FOMO is. I talked to my parents about this, and they said that there was nothing wrong in having an account, but that it’s con was that it was really addictive.

I’m in one of the top 2 in my whole grade, and believe me, I didn’t wanna lose my place to my competitor. I gradually outgrew the FOMO feeling and god bless my parents, they were right.

Fast forward 2 years, and now, all my friends are so addicted to Insta and Snap that it’s giving a HARD blow on their studies. AND about me? I still retain all my straight A’s 💃

There came another devil in disguise with all of these apps: “TIKTOK”

Now, TikTok didn’t have as much an effect on me as others did. I honestly didn’t even go to know much about the app. And again, once it come out in the market, all my friends had installed it. (I pity their parents honestly). And as luck would have it, our government banned the app for reasons. This was a year or a year ’n’ a half or so.

Now, once TikTok was banned, Insta reels was the new TikTok. There came other alternatives too...

Coming to the present, the cringe-free platform of YouTube introduced a new feature: “The YouTube Shorts”

This might’ve been the biggest mistake YouTube has made, after the 2019 Rewind.

If you have YouTube {I’m guessing you do} you would’ve seen this feature. The first time I saw this, I was curious to see what type of content would be there. A week into it, I had actually started liking TikTok. The different kinds of people with many types of content was really good!

Some of the famous Tiktokers

And Then, I was introduced to teens who “dance” for popular songs, by wiggling their hands, arms, booties and gain ‘buttload’ of money(no pun intended). [Charlie….Charlie….Charlie] ………I was confused on how people would even like this or consider this a dance of any sort. I mean, do a renegade dance for 15 seconds and gain 1000’s of $…humanity is going downhill.

This was nothing compared to making weird ass expressions on your face and nodding your head to the beat to get the most viewed and liked TikTok- yes, Bella I’m Talking about you.

It isn’t these weird people I detest, it’s the audience who even encourage such stuff. The people who do nothing and gain money are GENIUSES. Talk about talking advantage of the system!

Listen, TikTok is an awesome place to showcase your talents and gain money, exposure, and start a career or advertise your career- but just think on whom to actually give fame to- rich kids with lot of connections and no talent, or normal hoomans who ACTUALLY have talent and not filled with c r i n g e.

Anyways, watch random funny memes for positivity…

Peace Out!
